MARBLEHEAD- Phyllis Lumina Johnson, age 98, of Marblehead, formerly of Swampscott and Lynn, passed away on Wednesday, September 15, 2021. Phyllis was the beloved wife of the late Ralph E. Johnson with whom she shared over 40 wonderful years of marriage.
Born in Shediac, New Brunswick, Canada, Phyllis was the daughter of the late Edmund and Edmee (Landry) Cormier. She is survived by her devoted son, Ralph H. "Bud” Johnson and his wife, Barbara, of Old Orchard Beach, Maine; cherished granddaughter, Jessica Leuci, and her husband, Peter, of North Reading; her adoring great-grandchildren, Samantha Grace and Jack Christopher Leuci, and dear sister, Delina Wendell, of Marblehead. She was also predeceased by her siblings, Valerie Cormier, Timothy Cormier, and Lorraine Henrickson and is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Phyllis grew up in Lynn and attended St. Jean Baptiste elementary and high schools. She worked for many years as a bookkeeper for A & P Supermarkets in Lynn, and for Marshalls in Swampscott until she was 88.
Phyllis will be remembered by her family for her extreme independence, and feistiness. She had her own apartment until she was 98. She enjoyed spending time with her friends playing cards, Keno, and Bingo. She was a ferocious knitter and fan of the Boston Bruins and Red Sox. She enjoyed tending to her garden and vacationing with her family at Rangeley Lake in Maine. Over the years she enjoyed the company and caring for her dogs.
Visiting hours for Phyllis will be held on Monday, September 27, 2021 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Eustis & Cornell,142 Elm Street, Marblehead, MA.
