Reg moved to Massachusetts as a small child and he spent the rest of his life as a resident of
Marblehead. He graduated Marblehead High School in 1959, and enlisted in the Air Force. After
serving his country he returned to Marblehead to help his father run the family clothing
store Hartley’s Clothing a staple of downtown Marblehead for over 30 years. Before closing
the store he established R. Hartley and Sons Landscaping which he operated with his four sons
for the past 40 years.
He was very involved in many of the town’s sports teams over the years as both a coach and
player. He coached numerous youth football teams and Little League baseball teams. He enjoyed
inspiring young players to develop great life skills such as working hard and never giving
up.
Reg also played in the Men’s softball League every year until he was 80 years old! He enjoyed
the ocean, being on his boat, attending many High School sporting events long after his kids
stopped attending and he enjoyed having breakfast at the Driftwood.

David and Janet Hartley of Danvers, Michael and Sara Hartley of Georgetown, Brian and
