MARBLEHEAD - Richard T. Lapham P.E., of Las Vegas, NV formerly a longtime resident of Marblehead, passed away on June 21, 2021, from complications related to Covid after an extended battle with Parkinson’s disease. His beloved wife Linda and three sons, Steve, Greg and John were at his bedside. He was 82 years old.
Richard was born to Leonard and Ruth Lapham in Plattsburgh, NY on February 12, 1939, the fourth of five children. After obtaining an Associate’s Degree in Applied Science from Hudson Valley Technical Institute, he began his insurance career for the Glens Falls Insurance Company in Glens Falls, NY.
He spent his entire working career in the insurance industry for a number of companies that included Glens Falls, Allstate, Kemper, Commercial Union and Lexington, a subsidiary of AIG from where he retired in 2012. He was very proud to attain the title of Registered Professional Engineer and his over 50-year career portfolio included projects such as Coors Field and CityCenter as well as several infrastructure designs in Amsterdam and Singapore.
Richard was a member of the Armed Forces and served in the Coast Guard. He also was a longtime Freemason as member of the Columbian Lodge AF & AM located in Boston, MA.
Although work kept him busy, Dick, as he was known to his friends or Pop Pop to his grandchildren, always had time for his family. Dick loved 50’s music, especially Elvis and Johnny Maestro. He also enjoyed fishing in his earlier years and bowled in leagues with both his wife Linda and friends. His greatest passion was watching the Boston Red Sox. Dick and Linda were best friends and really embraced the move to Las Vegas, especially during the frigid New England winter season when several East Coast family members and friends visited often. They especially enjoyed playing bingo and video poker together and attended dozens of shows and concerts over the years. The Vegas Golden Knights became their adopted “home team” and he always perked up to watch their games even when his health was failing.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Leonard and Ruth Lapham, sister June Fowler and brother Len. He is survived by his wife of nearly 60 years Linda, son Steve and daughter in law Marybeth of Fort Myers, FL, son Greg of Marblehead, MA, son John of Las Vegas and grandchildren Kelly of Scotch Plains, NJ and Brian of Charleston, SC and brothers Russell of Troy, NY and Dennis of Plattsburgh, NY as well as several nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to extend its sincere appreciation to Dr. Estrada, Molly McEachern and the entire Palliative care team, all the health care professionals at Mountainview Hospital, Dr. Yang at PAM Acute Rehabilitation Hospital, the caregivers at Infinity Hospice Care of Las Vegas and all his home health care providers from Palmiera.
