Sally was born in Gloucester, she was the daughter of the late Hermon and Shirley Erwin, and sister to the late James Erwin. Sally grew up in Rockport, where she enjoyed spending time on Front Beach and helping out her parents at The Peg Leg Inn, which was founded by the Erwin family in the 1940s. Sally graduated from Gloucester High School and attended Wheelock College.
Sally was the beloved former wife of the late Weston O. Graves with whom she shared many happy years of marriage. She was the mother of Julie (David Coleman), Weston, and Sarah (John Mairo). She was the cherished grandmother of Joseph Graves, Samuel Kane (Tania), Lucas Mairo, Bailey Graves, Anna Kane, Emma Kane, Bradley Graves, Owen Mairo, Isabelle Graves, David Coleman, Delia Mairo, and Weston Graves III.
Sally raised her family in Marblehead and Rockport. Her love of people and sincere, happy demeanor helped her to be a successful real estate broker for many years. In her free time, she enjoyed boating with her family and playing tennis with her friends. Above all else, Sally's pride and joy was always her children and twelve grandchildren.
Unfortunately, as Sally approached her midlife, she was struck with a debilitating illness; spending her 50th birthday in the hospital with her family by her side. The lasting effects of her illness challenged Sally for the rest of her life. But she faced those challenges with incredible bravery, a wicked sense of humor, and a never-ending positive attitude. Throughout it all, Sally continued to find great joy and fulfillment in showering her twelve grandchildren with love.
