Donald Alan Greenlee, 73, of Marengo, affectionately known as Duck to most who knew him, passed away on June 1, 2026. He was born on January 25, 1953, in Harvard to James and Ruth (Gumprecht) Greenlee.
After graduating from Harvard High School, Duck attended the American Academy of Art in Chicago, graduating in 1973. While art was not his career, it remained a vital and enduring part of Duck’s life—an expression of the way he noticed beauty, shape, and color in the everyday, and a quiet source of joy he carried with him through the years.
Duck dedicated 47 years of work to Techalloy/Central Wire before retiring in 2020, a remarkable span. He also served his community as a member of the Marengo Rescue Squad for 13.5 years, offering his time and presence in moments when they mattered most.
On December 9, 2012, Duck married Trudy at Disney World, a place that captured their shared delight and became a cherished tradition as they returned each year to celebrate their anniversary. A true Disney enthusiast, Duck found happiness in the wonder of it all, and he carried that same lightness into the things he loved—whether creating art, admiring flowers (especially posies), or enjoying the music of Rush. He also loved sports, especially baseball, football, hockey & NASCAR.
Duck’s affection extended warmly to his dogs, and he was active with Paw Pals through VITAS hospice, a reflection of his gentle care and the quiet comfort he valued. Alongside his many interests, Duck was known for a sense of humor that could soften a day, brighten a room, and remind others not to take life too heavily.
Duck is survived by his wife, Trudy; his children, Shannon (Chad) Heimsoth, Stacie (Kris) Hancock, Derrick (Haley) Greenlee, Dusty (Jackie) Greenlee; 13 grandchildren; siblings, Linda (Harold) Vierck, Ken (Peggy) Greenlee; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Ruth (Gumprecht) Greenlee.
There will be a celebration of life from 2pm to 4pm on Friday, June 19 with a service at 4pm at Niko's Grill & Pub, 7509 S Grant Hwy, Marengo.
