Gaye Anne (Winbigler) Anderson died April 04, 2024 comfortably and at peace with God in Lombard, Illinois, with family by her side. Born April 14, 1939 in Rhinelander, Wisconsin as the only child of S Grace (Kettelkamp) Winbigler and Gerald E. Winbigler. The family relocated to Elgin, Illinois, in 1941. She attended Elgin District 47 elementary and high school, graduating in 1958. Further education included Monmouth College and Northern Illinois University graduating from NIU in 1961 with a BS degree in elementary education. Postgraduate work at NIU resulted in a MS degree in curriculum and supervision in 1965. Gaye was a member of Alpha Xi Delta sorority in her college experiences and developed many close friendships. Gaye also maintained a life membership with Fraternal Order of Eastern Star Fox Valley.
She was married July 9, 1961 at First United Methodist Church, Elgin, IL to Richard Lee Anderson. This union was blessed with two wonderful sons Kevin and Scott. The family located in Marengo, Illinois, in 1961 and quickly became involved in their new home and community with dedicated service to family, their church, and local organizations for many years. Gaye held leadership positions in Marengo Woman’s Club; Home Circle Club; Mother’s Study Club; Marengo Police Board; and Marengo United Methodist Church, Ruth Circle, Children Ministries, and Stephen Ministry. She was employed as a caring and beloved kindergarten teacher in the Marengo area and Crystal Lake elementary schools for 25 years until retirement in 1994. Gaye was proud to be a member of Delta Kappa Gamma professional educator’s society. The next 3 years found her as a sales representative and consultant with Scott Foresman K-12 Publishing Company. Gaye was a frequent exhibitor and speaker at Illinois State Kindergarten Conferences.
After retirement Gaye and Richard loved to travel. They enjoyed all the Hawaiian Islands; multiple small-ship cruises in the U.S.; and visits to England, Scotland, and Ireland. They also had the opportunity to travel with friends to Fiji, Australia, New Zealand, and Alaska. Travels in the United States took her to all fifty states. Her favorite states were Hawaii, Florida, California, and then Arizona for Cubs pre-season training. Gaye developed her love for the Chicago Cubs from her father.
Surviving Gaye are her loving family including husband Richard Anderson, son Kevin (Caroline) Anderson, son Scott Anderson, granddaughter Ashley Anderson, and granddaughter Lauren Anderson. Gaye was preceded in death by her parents Gerald and Grace Winbigler.
Visitation is from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Thursday, April 11, at Marengo-Union Funeral Home, 505 E Grant Hwy, Marengo, IL 60152. Visitation will continue from 10:00 am to 11:00 am before the funeral service at 11:00 am on Friday, April 12, at Marengo United Methodist Church,119 E Washington St, Marengo, IL 60152. Interment will be at Marengo City Cemetery after the funeral service. In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial donation to Marengo United Methodist Church.
