He was born May 19, 1932, in Neillsville, Wisconsin to Otto and Grace (Herr) Abel. On July 7, 1956, he married Lois Shisler.
He served in the U.S. Army from 1952 to 1954 during the Korean War.
He was a member of the Harvard Sportsman Club and a lifetime member of the Harvard Moose Lodge. He worked at Arnold Engineering for many years. He was an outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing and hunting.
He is survived by a daughter-in-law, Patty Abel of Capron; two grandchildren, Nathan and Natalie Abel of Capron; two brothers, Lloyd (Dawn) Abel of Brussels, Wisconsin and Frank (Abigail) Abel of La Puente, California; two sisters, Joan (Harry) Bujanowski of Wisconsin Rapids, Wisconsin and Donna (Gerald) Peters of Rudolph, Wisconsin; his special friends, Jerry and Edie Darling of Marengo; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Lois; his son, Otto Abel; a brother, Albert Abel; and a sister, Yvonne Rondorf.
Visitation will be from 10am to the Noon funeral service at Marengo United Methodist Church, 119 E. Washington St., Marengo, IL 60152.
Interment will be in Marengo City Cemetery.
