
Marengo—Harold C. Sawallisch, 85, of Marengo died peacefully on November 2, 2010, at Hospice of Northeastern Illinois in Woodstock with his family by his side.
He was born January 31, 1925, to Edward and Marie (Stuempel) Sawallisch. He married Rosemary Ferguson on September 29, 1945.
He was a dairy famer who loved animals and being outdoors. After moving to town taking care of their yard and being out there on his mower gave him great pleasure along with family and friends stopping by. He will be remembered as the kind and caring man who always had a smile. His real pride was his devotion to his wife and loving family. Family gathered lovingly around him including his sisters, Irene Schuring, Darlene Davis, Bernice Schiller, and nieces and nephews.
He is survived by his wife, Rosemary; his five daughters, Teresa Hay of Crystal Lake, Lynn (Bill) Courier, Joan (Birdie) Roth, Jeannie Bright and Mary (Casey) Lindsay, all of Marengo; 10 grandchildren, Ed (Debra) Hay, Kathy (Carl) Knaak, Chris (Michelle) Courier, Michelle (Kevin) Magden, Luke Roth, Rachael (Sean) Adler, Jason (Kellie) Flemming, Sarah Bright, Laif Lindsay and Jennifer (Tom) Voss; 12 great-grandchildren, Margaret and Joshua Hay, Kristen and Kayla Knaak, Colin and Makenzie Courier, Connor and Kelsey Magden, Chase and Alex Sarver, Connor and Ellie Adler; and many beloved family members.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his infant sister, Lorraine Sawallisch; and three grandchildren, infant Allen Scott Hay, Melissa Roth, and Juli (Roth) Vannarath.
The visitation will be from 10:30am to 12:30pm on Saturday, November 6, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 6821 Main St., Union, IL 60180. The funeral service will be at 12:30pm with lunch following. Interment will be in Marengo City Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. John’s Lutheran Church or to Hospice of Northeastern Illinois, 405 Lake Zurich Rd., Barrington, IL 60010.
