Howard Fillmore Bigelow

Howard Fillmore Bigelow, of Belvidere died peacefully June 9, 2021, at the age of 96 years, 5 months, 9 days. Born December 30, 1924 in Rockford, IL; son of Carey and Zillah (Fillmore) Bigelow. He was a graduate of Marengo High School in Marengo, IL. Howard served with the U.S. Navy aboard the USS LST869 during WWII, and received two bronze stars for his service in the Pacific theatre. He married Lorraine Brendemuehl in 1953 and had two children. He is survived by his two daughters, Linda Dotterer of Lombard, IL and Cynthia Grischow of Wood Dale, IL; adored grandfather of six, great-grandfather of seven. Fond uncle of Debbie Chester and Richard (Rose) Kolberg. Preceded in death by his parents, Carey and Zillah Bigelow; his sister and brother-in-law Eleanor (Harold) Kolberg, and his nephew Robert Kolberg.

Funeral Services will be held June 14, 2021 at 11 a.m. at Marengo-Union Funeral Home, 505 E. Grant Highway in Marengo, IL 60152. Interment to follow at Marengo Cemetery. For further info call 815-568-8131.
