James "Jim" Arthur Moravec

Jim was born June 12, 1967 in Elmhurst, Il to John and Marlene Moravec (Aschenbrenner). Jim grew up in Marengo, IL attending Marengo Community High School where he spent a lot of his time in the band and choir. His fondest memory was playing the tuba solo in band competitions.

He met his wife Robin (Swiec) and they fell in love immediately. They were married on July 23. 1994 at Sacred Heart church in Marengo. They moved to Belvidere in 1995, and then in 1999 following in his parent’s footsteps, they built their dream home in Capron, IL. Together they welcomed three children, Jimmy, Amanda and Marlene. He enjoyed spending time with his family, camping, antiquing, and home improvement. He was affectionately called PAPA Jim by his grandchildren.

After attending Southern Illinois University-Carbondale automotive technology program he started JDM Auto Service in his parent’s garage. With their support he moved JDM to Huntley, IL. In 2001 Jim and Robin bought out his parents’ share of JDM and relocated it to its current location. Jim and Robin grew JDM Auto into a thriving auto repair business. His legacy will be continued on by Robin and their son Jimmy. For anyone who doesn’t know JDM stands for Jim Dad Mom. Family was everything to him.

Jim will always be loved and remembered by his children James (Kenzie) Moravec, Amanda (David) Lotsof and Marlene (Mike) Moravec; his grandchildren James III, Kendall and soon to arrive Rose; his sister Theresa (Bryan) Kennedy; brother John (Yvette) Moravec; and many nieces and nephews.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents John and Marlene Moravec.

A visitation for Jim will be held Monday, April 28, 2025, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Marengo Union Funeral home, 505 E. Grant Hwy, Marengo, Illinois 60152. A service will be held at the Funeral home on Tuesday April 29, 2025,at 10AM, followed immediately by a burial at Capron Cemetery on Show St., Capron, IL 61012.
