Brilliant and soft-hearted moody musician, John Earnest Kumm, 67, crossed the lyricist’s limbo between life and rest from illness on March 28, 2021 in Marengo, Illinois. An often quiet, but quick-witted creative, John was driven, handy, generous, romantic, appreciative, thoughtful, and even silly around those closest to him. He was a very private man, loved the comfort of home and sitting outside in the glorious sunshine. Yet, as much as solitude suited him, an independent thinker, he was sentimental about family, traditions, and never hesitated to say “I love you.” He believed in God and in working hard, and while his grumpiness stemmed from a tortured artist’s soul, his boyish charm won us all over.
John is survived by his wife, Theresa (Miller) Kumm; his daughters Star Tucker, Anne Williams, Amanda Manley, and Melissa Cechota; his 9 grandchildren; his brother Ralph Hoffman; his sisters Marie (Hoffman) Neuman and Joan (Kumm) Marlow; as well as by many nieces, nephews and close friends. He is preceded in death by his late wife, Sandra (Barnes) Kumm, and his parents.
A Celebration of Life is being scheduled for early June when the weather is John’s favorite. Family and friends will be notified of the coming details.

Which shines around me like a million suns
