Kenneth Jack Zwart, 82, of Garden Prairie, Illinois, passed away on June 21, 2026. Ken was born February 17, 1944, in Sibley, IA, to Martha (Baas) and Cornelius Zwart. The family later moved to Marengo when Ken was a boy.
On September 28, 1963, Ken married Laura Galpin at Zion Lutheran Church in Marengo. Together they shared 62 years of marriage.
Ken’s life was closely tied to the land. Farming was a passion for him. He was especially proud of his team of draft horses. That love connected him to the farming days of his childhood, and many will remember Ken and his draft team in the Settler’s Day parade. He was also a member of an antique tractor club in McHenry County.
Ken will be deeply missed by his wife, Laura; his children, Brian (Laura) Zwart and Randy (Kris) Zwart; his grandchildren, Jack (Lindsay), Max (Zoe), Nick (Brooke), Hunter (Terri), and Shelby (Brad); his great-grandchildren, Frankie, Esther, Winifred, Braxton, Oliver, Case, Raelyn; and his sister, Marlene Baker.
The family extends a special thank you to Tammy Boxleitner for the care and love she has provided to not only Ken and Laura, but to the entire Zwart family.
Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on Monday, June 29, at Marengo-Union Funeral Home, 505 E. Grant Hwy, Marengo. The funeral service will follow at 12:00 p.m. Interment will be in McHenry County Memorial Park.
