LeRoy was born on July 1, 1947 in Marshalltown, Iowa to Vern and Bonnie (Jackson) Buchanan.
After high school graduation he was drafted into the United States Army, serving his country in the 3rd of the 5th Cavalry Regiment from May 1968 to July 1969 in Vietnam. He earned several medals, including the Bronze Star.
LeRoy then became an avid horse trainer of American Saddlebreds for many years. Later he worked for United Union of Roofers Local 11.
LeRoy and his wife Laureen (Sorensen) married on June 30, 1979. They lived in Marengo, raising their three children, Margaret Ann, Owen Jacob and Ernest Matthew. LeRoy and Laureen have four grandchildren.
LeRoy was preceded in death by his parents and his daughter, Margaret.
LeRoy enjoyed fishing, scraping, bird watching and spending time with his family.
There will be a visitation from 10am to 11am on Thursday, July 10 at St. John's Lutheran Church, 6821 Main St, Union. The funeral service will follow at 11am.
Interment will be in Union Cemetery, Union.
