
Richard C. “Dick” Sorensen, 74, of Marengo died Sunday October 23, 2011 at Centegra Hospital – Woodstock. He was born May 2, 1937 in Harvard to Lyle and Lucille (Nates) Sorensen. On March 21, 1974 he married Delores Behrens. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Harvard and the Harvard Moose for more than 40 years. A car dealer for 52 years, Dick worked as a manager for several auto dealerships throughout the area including Burkharts in Harvard. He owned and operated Dick Sorensen Pontiac, Buick, & GMC in Oregon, IL and Dick Sorensen Auto Sales in Marengo for many years. He enjoyed collecting classic cars, remodeling homes, traveling, and spending time with family and friends.
He is survived by the love of his life, his wife of 38 years Dee; his children and special daughter and caregiver Tammy O’Neill of Marengo, Peggy Socha of Largo, FL, Rick (Lori) Sorensen of Janesville, Vickie (Don) Redner of Poplar Grove, Pat (Dick) Peterson of Woodstock, Andy Sorensen of Sharon, WI, Tom Sorensen of Grayslake, Nick Sorensen of Loves Park; 27 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law Evelyn (Hank) Sale, Eleanor Phelps, Hazel Laue, his special friend Coco, and close friends June Meyer, Rob & Tonya Proffitt and Randy & Carrie Trebes, the Larry Dauphin family and many other friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents Lyle & Lucille Sorensen, a brother Robert Sorensen, and sons Steve Behrens and Billy Behrens.
Visitation will be from 2-8 pm on Friday October 28 at Marengo-Union Funeral Home, 505 E. Grant Hwy Marengo. Services will be private.
