Robert L. Smith

He was born May 20, 1932, in Winchester, Virginia, to George and Anna (Cline) Smith.

He was a veteran of the United States Air Force.

He had been a resident of Marengo since 1995, and was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Union. He served as the financial secretary at the church for many years and worked on the committee to prepare for the new church building. He worked for AT&T for the majority of his life.

He enjoyed golfing, bowling, working on his computer and attending his companion’s granddaughter’s softball games. He also participated in the Seniors Group in Marengo and enjoyed playing pinochle.

He is survived by his long-time companion, Jeanette “Cookie” Haseman; his sisters, Barbara (Calvin) Niner of Baltimore, MD, and Shirley (Ed) Tull of West Virginia; his daughters, Renee Smith of Cambridge, WI, and Rachel (Tim) Domaleczny of Dayton, OH; and his son, Gregory Smith of Sycamore.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

A memorial service will be held at 10am on January 8, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 6821 Main Street, Union, IL 60180.

Interment will be private.
