Roger was raised in Mt. Prospect. He was the youngest child of Clara and Albert Kueking. Roger adored his mother Clara and spoke often of her, especially her cooking.
Roger met the love of his life Cynthia Helfers in 1966 and they married in 1968. They bought property in Marengo and began to build their family. They were blessed with two children, Natalie and David. When Roger was 22 years old he joined the International Union of Operating Engineers. He worked as a heavy equipment operator and mechanic and later ran the concrete batch plant. He was a proud member of Local 150 for 60 years. In addition to working his union job, he raised pigs with his son David, he grew corn and soybeans on his land and had an auto body shop in his barn.
His family has fond memories of spending many Friday nights at the Moose Lodge in Harvard, enjoying the fish fry and polka dancing with his lovely wife Cynthia.
Roger taught Natalie and David to fish, trap, ride dirt bikes, four wheelers and snowmobiles and to raise a variety of small farm animals. They had a swimming pool in the yard and a huge garden every summer. In later years he loved sharing many of the same experiences with his grandsons, Ben and Eric. Roger loved to see his family happy.
Roger attended St. John's United Church of Christ in Harmony for more than 50 years. His faith was very important to him. He rarely missed a Sunday in church. He passed his strong faith in God onto his children. Roger served in the Illinois National Guard for many years and was proud of his service. Roger was a hard working, kind and loving husband, father and grandfather and will be terribly missed.
He leaves behind his wife of 59 years Cynthia, his daughter Natalie (Mike) Wiley, his son David (Sue) Kueking and his grandsons Ben and Eric Wiley. He was preceded in death by his parents, as well as his four siblings, Marion, Fred, Eugene and Carl.
Visitation will be from 10am to the 1pm Funeral Service on Saturday, July 11 at St. John's United Church of Christ, 11821 E. Grant Hwy, Hampshire, IL 60140.
In lieu of flowers, if you would like to honor Roger, donations can be made to St. John's United Church of Christ.
