Ruth E. Brooke

She was born Nov. 22, 1916, in Round Grove, Ind., to Fred and Emma (Habben) Wichmann. On Aug. 21, 1938, she married Burley Brooke in Lafayette, Ind.

She was a resident of Marengo for more than 65 years. She was an active member of Marengo United Methodist Church. She worked for many years at Ben Franklin in Marengo. She was involved in the American Legion Auxiliary and was a volunteer at Florence Nursing Home. She loved traveling and playing bingo.

She is survived by her children, James (Mary) Brooke, Beverly (Vigil) Baser, Donald (Nancy) Brooke and Ronald (Jill) Brooke; her grandchildren, Ben Brooke, Sarah (Matt) Russ, Rebekah (Matt) Grocholl, Anthony (Yvonne) Brooke, Jaclyn (Ken) Chapman, John Brooke, Robert (Julie) Baser, Renee (Rob) Andrews and Deanna (Dan) Larson; her great-grandchildren, Luke, Joseph, Peter, Kristen, Sydney, Corbin, Sammy, Brendan, Caleb, Daniel, Hannah, Sebastian, Brooklyn, Keaton and Kenny; her brother, Paul (Charlotte) Wichmann; her sisters-in-law, Mary and Katherine Wichmann; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Burley; her parents; two sons, Richard and Robert Brooke; two brothers; and three sisters.

The visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, June 9, at Marengo United Methodist Church, 119 E. Washington St., Marengo. The visitation will continue from 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. funeral Thursday, June 10, at the church. Interment will be in Marengo City Cemetery.
