Born in North Adams, Massachusetts on November 8, 1949, to Walter and Eileen (Bunting) Bross, Sally was the third oldest of seven beautiful girls. The love and pride she had for her family was immeasurable.
Sally is survived by her son Christian (Diane) Phillips, her daughter Stephanie (Mike) Scott, grandchildren Lillian Scott and Jason Phillips, sisters and brothers-in-law Donna Byrnes, Joanne (Rich) Spizziri, Jacqueline Bross, Roberta Quinlan, Mike Cook, and Don Wagner. She will be missed by many nieces, nephews, uncles, cousins and their families.
She was preceded in death by her parents Walter and Eileen, her sisters Karen Cook and Rebecca Wagner, her niece, Michelle Byrnes Thoma, her mother-in-law, sister-in-law, three brothers-in-law, and her friend and former husband, Bob Phillips.
Sally spent much of her life in Streamwood, Bartlett and Elgin, Illinois. She was a 1967 graduate of Larkin High School and graduated with degrees from Elgin Community College and Judson University. She started working at Jewel Foods in Streamwood when she was sixteen and worked there for two decades. From Jewel, she could tell you how to properly bag your groceries and memorize every type of produce – no matter how strange. She gained many customers and friends who appreciated her sweet (but in charge) demeanor, and they looked forward to seeing her in the store. Sally went on to have a successful career in business management until she retired from AT&T in 2007.
She loved to entertain her family with backyard cookouts and get togethers. In her younger years she enjoyed coaching and umpiring girls’ softball, flower gardening, baking, bowling, crocheting, and taking care of her family and pets. She enjoyed watching classic movies. She could tell you the name of every famous actor born in the early 1900’s. Everyone from Bing Crosby to Spencer Tracy, and of course her all-time favorite, John Wayne.
Sally has had many friends through the years, but she was especially thankful to those who have taken such loving care of her since December 2008. Please know what your skills, thoughtfulness and compassion have brought to her and to her family.
Services for Sally will be private. Her final resting place will be in Bartlett Cemetery.
