Akshay was my classmate at the ICC - and although we went our separate ways after graduation, Akshay and I became close friends during our six months together. He thought differently than most of the people around him; he was quick with his words but that was only because his mind was moving so quickly. He was in love with food and his passion was contagious - even years after seeing him last, from time to time when I am cooking I still think of him and ask myself how Akshay would think about this dish and how much intensity and fun he would display while coming up with the answer. I found him to be inspiring and competitive; anyone that has such talent and drive will naturally motivate those around them to be better. I laughed a lot with him, and we liked making fun of the world at the absurdity of it all sometimes. I enjoyed seeing that his serious side was balanced with moments of pure joy and lightheartedness. He had a tough exterior but he cared very deeply about all of the people and things in his life, and protected them proudly.

Akshay's life was brilliant and beautiful but way too short, and I am so sad to hear about his passing. My heart goes out to Akshay's parents, his brother Nash and the rest of his family and friends. We will miss you AK, your memory lives on in all of us.

Here is a picture of Akshay and I during the final week of our ICC Farm to Table program - we were up late coming up with ideas for our group's dish presentation the following morning.

Some time in life most unexpected and undesirable things happens and passing away of Akshay has shaken us to the core.
I still remember the days when he along with family visited India. His smile, caring nature and respect for elders were some of the qualities he exhibited during his childhood days and remained with him till the end.
Words can not express the loss and pain for the whole family. You will always live in our hearts.

The last time I met Akshay bhaiya, it was 15 years ago and I was too young then, so I only have faint memories of how it was like to be with him. But when I look back at our old photos and hear tales from my mother and my grandmother of how much bhaiya loved me, I always wanted to embrace him and let him know how much I have longed to meet him.

Whenever Mama told us about Akshay bhaiya, I was amazed by his deeds and his noble nature. No one expected that such a beautiful person would leave us so soon.

When we heard the news of him passing away, the pain and loss that we felt were immeasurable. His absence will create a huge void in our family which can never be filled.

Akshay bhaiya was a divine soul with kindness that of heavenly angels. He was our eldest brother and as his younger cousins, we shall strive to follow in his footsteps by being kind to everyone around us.

I pray to God to give strength to Avinash bhaiya, Mama, and Mami to bear the insurmountable grief that has fallen upon them. Back in India, we are devastated and it is a time of extreme anguish and sorrow as it is the most unfortunate incident that could have ever happened in our family.

"The ones who love us never really leave us, we can always find them in our hearts"

Akshay bhaiya will always be remembered through the fond and loving memories that we have of him, his benevolence, and compassion that has positively impacted everyone around him.

AK was a student of mine at ICC. When he first started at the school it could be said that he could be a little rough around the edges at times. As I began to get to know him I saw the heart and passion he had when he was learning and growing in the program. I knew that when he left the school he would be capable of anything that he decided to set his mind to. He would come to me sometimes on advice on where to work or just to talk about his experiences at his jobs. It was a joy to see his development and excitement about his trials and tribulations. He will be missed. Nash and his family have my deepest sympathy.

AK was a student of mine at ICC. He was ready to be challenged and excited to cook in class. He will be remembered by his classmates for his passion.

He and Nash knew the true way to get on my good side. They brought donuts in for the class.

I will look back at my time in class with him fondly.

My condolences to Nash, the Mamgain family and his friends.
