August 7, 1942 – July 2, 2025
Barbara McCune, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully after a life marked by compassion, service, and unwavering faith. She was born on August 7, 1942, in Sharon, Pennsylvania, to Elvin and Mary Jane Thompson.
Barbara graduated from Hickory High School (now Hermitage High School) in 1960 and went on to earn a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from Youngstown University, now known as Youngstown State University. On July 17, 1965, she married the love of her life, William J. McCune (Bill). This year would have marked their 60th wedding anniversary—a testament to a lifetime of devotion and partnership.
Barbara began her professional career as a social worker with the Welfare Department of Allegheny County in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. After relocating to Florida, she continued to share her talents in various roles throughout her life, including waitress, secretary, and working with a temporary staffing agency.
She also spent time working alongside her husband at McCune Radio Aire and later founded and operated her own business, Not Just Classics Inc., specializing in hard-to-find music CDs and tapes through mail order.
A woman of many passions, Barbara loved to sing. She took vocal lessons for several years and performed in multiple recitals, bringing joy to those who heard her voice. She was a dedicated and faithful member of the Coconut Creek Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, where she was deeply loved and respected by her congregation.
Barbara had a heart for caregiving, believing it to be her calling in life. She selflessly cared for many over the years, always treating others with kindness and generosity. Her warmth and openness meant that she truly never met a stranger.
She is survived by her devoted husband Bill, her beloved son Don Charles McCune, and cherished grandchildren Morghan and Cheyenne McCune. She was preceded in death by her parents, Elvin Thompson and Mary Jane Norton Thompson, and her brother, Allen Lee Thompson.
In honor of Barbara’s compassionate spirit, donations may be made to Women in Distress or to your favorite animal-related charity.
Additionally, those wishing to support the family during this time can sign up at Meal Train for McCune to provide meals or contribute financially to help with groceries for Bill.
Barbra will be remembered for her strength, warmth, and the deep
love she shared with everyone who had the blessing of knowing her. Her legacy lives on through the lives she touched and the memories she leaves behind.
