

When Mrs. Giovanna Fava Mallozzi walked into the room, those in her company felt energy, an enthusiastic spontaneity. This was just one example of who Giovanna was and how she impacted those around her. Giovanna was a clever and gregarious person who always sought out the finest attributes in other people. It was as if Giovanna wanted to share all of their experiences, revel in their lives and celebrate their discoveries. Giovanna was tireless and had boundless enthusiasm that would serve her well throughout her life. Giovanna was born on August 2, 1928 at in her parents home in Sorbello, Italy. She was the daughter of Angelina and Luigi. Giovanna was raised in Sorbello, Italy. While some who knew Giovanna might describe her as an idealist, her friends and family understood well that Giovanna was always in pursuit of life’s endless possibilities and opportunities available to her. Giovanna was raised with 7 brothers and sisters. Giovanna's siblings included: Pepino, Bruno, Ines, Italo, Lauretta, Gino, and a baby sister that passed away named Anna Maria. Giovanna was very accepting and supportive of her family. She was perceived as the central person in her family in terms of keeping communication open between the family members. Whenever discord or tension arose within the home, Giovanna was typically the member who brought about resolution and harmony. These traits served Giovanna well in her adult life and, along with her wit, outgoing personality, and understanding of others, drew the admiration of many who knew her. With a talent for making acquaintances easily which in turn brought her an endless stream of friends, Giovanna was very sociable and could blend without effort into any social group. Assertive and outgoing, Giovanna was easy to know and demonstrated a deep concern for others. She always seemed aware of what was going on with people around her and throughout her life she made many, many friends. Giovanna was able to keep in touch with many of her childhood friends from Italy through visits back, as well as with those that also moved to the United States. But her extended family were always her closest friends. She also kept in touch with many of those friends they made while living and working in Waltham, MA. Giovanna was a best friend to everyone that she came into contact with. She truly enjoyed an array of activities from hosting Sunday dinners, to playing friendly card games, to traveling around to area attractions, to trying her luck at local bingo games. Giovanna's skill at “building bridges” played an important role in her ability to make her family and friends happy. She was quite sensitive towards Salvatore's needs, showing her constant concern and fondness. Giovanna was tenderhearted and sensitive, qualities that served her well in helping to nurture her family. Giovanna was a natural and creative parent who was willing to provide her family with all sorts of new and interesting experiences. For Giovanna, parenting was a particularly enjoyable and pleasurable part of her life. Every activity, from chores to bedtime routines was a joy for Giovanna. Giovanna's skill at understanding her children's feelings, her sensitivity to their needs, and her gift for gentle persuasion enabled her to find novel solutions to any problem or situation that might crop up. Giovanna was blessed with 6 children: Vincent, Mellina, Angela, Marisa, Louie, and Lisa. She and Salvatore were also blessed with 9 grandchildren, Sal, Chris, Delaina, Diana, Danny, Nick, Stacey, Kara, and Cody and one great-grandchild. Giovanna was uplifted by new ideas and was excited by life’s possibilities, traits that made her an exceptional worker. Her primary occupation was as a devoted wife and mother. However she held many jobs outside her home such as, seamstress and machinist. She was employed for about twenty years at Standard Thompson as machinist. But Giovanna was always best known as an exceptional seamstress, making dresses for her daughters' weddings and altering clothing for family and friends. Giovanna's fellow workers saw her as a supporter and a mentor. Giovanna's work ethic was unmatchable. Because Giovanna loved to have a broad variety of activities in her life, she took advantage of the opportunity to pursue numerous hobbies. Giovanna enjoyed many different hobbies, as she was not one to just sit and watch a movie! She loved going to bingo, gardening, baking for family and friends, playing cards, reading, listening and dancing to music, and basically anything that kept her laughing. Giovanna had a knack for being able to multi-task in order to create time for all of her favorite pastimes. However, Giovanna's ever-present concern for others always took precedent. There was always a certain style and inventiveness to Giovanna. She was a dynamic, self-expressive person who was forever looking to celebrate the endless possibilities life had to offer. She had a knack for being clever, creative and witty, and for others, was a joy to be around. All throughout her life it seemed as if many others looked to Giovanna Mallozzi for inspiration, leadership, wisdom and even courage. Giovanna was always more than willing to share life’s experiences with her loved ones.Visitation will be Friday, December 4, 2009 from 4 - 8 PM with a service at 7 PM at the funeral home. Church services will be held Saturday, December 5, 2009 at 10:30 am at St. Vincent's Catholic Church.
