

Conway, John W. "Jack" Jr., passed away Friday, June 15, 2012 in the home of his son, Bernard "Barney" Conway. Jack lived in Coconut Creek, FL, prior to moving to Maryland. He was married on June 21, 1947 to Junita "Nita" Rhoda (Guevara) Conway. They had one son, Bernard "Barney" Lee. He and his wife Jodi live in Salisbury, MD. Jack was the son of John W. and Irene (McBride) Conway. Jack was preceded in death by his parents, one brother Bernard of Arkansas, a sister Betty of Texas, and his beloved wife of 63 years, Nita. Jack proudly served our County in World War II. He was a Staff Sargent in the US Army Air Corp. He served as a tail gunner in the B17 bomber also as the Flying Fortress. He was a crew member of "Beatty's Eight Balls." On their 15th mission, the Flying Fortress was shot down by enemy planes over Germany. Jack was captured and held as a prisoner of war for nearly a year. Upon his return from the war, he met his wife, Nita, and began a new life. Jack founded JW Conway, Inc located in Hyattsville, MD. He had a successful roofing and sheet metal business for 34 years when he retired to Florida. Jack was an avid golfer and belonged to Argyle County Club in Maryland and Sunrise Country Club in Florida. He also loved to pitch horse shoes. He was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and a member of the American Ex-Pow Association. A memorial celebration of Jacks life will be held at Holloway Funeral Home on Tuesday, June 19 at 6 p.m. Friends are welcome to visit one hour prior to the memorial service.
