Mary is survived by her children Mark Newell of Oakland Park, Linda (Michael) Hall of Port Saint Lucie, and Lisa Rell of Crawfordville, Florida. She is preceded in death by her husband Dale, and son Duane (Cheryl).
Mary was born in Boston, Massachusetts on July 22, 1938, to her parents John and Mary Curtis. She graduated from Girl’s High School in 1954 and met her husband Dale at a USO dance shortly thereafter. Once Dale left the Navy they married and moved to Minnesota where all four children were born. In 1970 they moved to Florida for a business opportunity at which Mary handled all the books while juggling motherhood for many years. Through that business Mary and Dale were able to travel extensively, something they enjoyed very much. In 1974 they moved to Coconut Creek and maintained that home until her death.
Mary was a great family woman and loving mother. She met every day with a smile and grace. She was loving and loved.
Mary was an active member of Saint Vincent’s Catholic Church in Margate, Florida for over 40 years and greatly appreciated the friendships she made there.
Mary had 8 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and many caring family members and friends.
Mary’s favorite place to spend her evenings was out on the bench in front of her house. She was often joined by her amazing long-time neighbors who cared for her and looked out for her. She was dubbed the “Queen of 42nd Avenue” and the outpouring of love for her will not be forgotten.
A viewing is scheduled for 4 to 8 pm on Wednesday March 8th at Kraeer Funeral Home at 1 State Road 441 in Margate Florida. A service will be held at 10:00 am on Thursday March 9th at St. Vincent Catholic Church at 6350 NW 18th Street, Margate, Fl. Interment at Our Lady Queen of Heaven Cemetery will follow directly after service at 11:30 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation to Boys Town South Florida, a charity Mary held dear.
