Michael was born with a head of straight black hair except for one white one in the middle of his crown. Upon seeing this, the nurse, who was Spanish told us: Michael will be “MUI FURIOSO”, meaning he would have a temper and he most definitely did! But he was also loving, sweet, kind and protective. He never minced words – he was a straight shooter all the way. Mike would stand in front of his family and friends to protect and defend them even at his own peril.
Mike had a terrific sense of humor – dry and clever and he made us all laugh from the time he was a toddler. He had the timing of a seasoned comedian at 3 years old. When the kindergarten school teacher asked him his three favorite things, he replied: “Wine, Women and Monsters”, in that order. It was true! On two occasions I was called to the school when he grabbed the lunch lady’s boobs.
As a boy, Mike loved all the monsters: Frankenstein, Dracula, The Wolfman, The Mummy and especially Godzilla. Even in cartoons like He-Man, Mike liked Skeletor, the villain. I think he felt sorry for them because “good” always prevailed. His favorite holiday (other than Christmas) was Halloween.
Michael loved his family with all his heart. His brother Robert and sister, Destiny were the most important people in this world to him and he bonded and loved his new brother, Rob Quinn. He considered himself blessed to have two beautiful, new nephews – Ryker and Jace to love and now they will never get the chance to know their fabulous Uncle Mike. He loved and respected his grandparents and cousins, aunts and uncles. And he so loved his friends – he kept them for life like Chris McGinley and Mike Fuhrman. They were precious to him.
Like most teens, Mike gave us a run for our money. Pete and I had to get him out of more than a few scrapes and of course there were wrecked cars and fights and mishaps that most every family goes through but in the main, he was a good kid and made up for it with all his good ways.
He was in love with wrestling and the WWE! He was varsity wrestling champion himself and has awards to prove it. Mike wasn’t as big as the other boys his age, but he was scrappy and tough and he usually won his bouts. He and Rob would save up and go to WrestleMania whenever it came to his part of the world and he loved all sports. I never knew a better statistician, sports commentator, or anyone more knowledgeable about Football, Baseball, Basketball, College teams – you name it (!) – and he would know.
Michael was our sweetheart, our protector and our sparring partner. He was my staunchest ally and my harshest critic and I loved him with every drop of blood in my body.
Rest now, my beautiful son. Go with God and know that you are always in our hearts.
