Loving, faithful, caring, giving, honorable, dependable, strong, hardworking and successful are all words that eloquently describe him. More than words Cecil’s life was defined by his faith and family, the most important aspects of this man’s great life.
He along with his wife Virginia (who he lovingly called Gin), built a successful commercial contracting business from the humble beginnings of a pickup truck, a mortar mixer and a trowel. His formal education belied his God given ability to see things not as they were, but what they could be. He used his gift and added hard work to create a company that provided jobs for many people, where he treated each employee as family.
While business was important to Cecil, of much greater importance to him was his faith and family. Hand in hand, he and Gin lived a life that was pleasing to God, whom they served faithfully during their 71-year marriage. He helped those that asked and others that didn’t but just needed help, without expecting anything in return. His family was his love and with Gin they had 5 children-- Cindy Samples (Mike), Judy Lively (Spencer), Vicki Holliday (Bruce), Becky Lively (Mike) and Cecil Brown Jr. aka Bug (Melanie), 15 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild.
Cecil, Big C, Daddy, and Popsie as he was lovingly called, served on the board of directors of Lee College for over 25 years until his death. His hobbies included gardening, snow skiing, traveling and especially collecting antique cars. He was a member of the Graham Car Club and enjoyed traveling to different locations to meet with other enthusiasts who became lifelong friends.
Cecil’s work here is done, but the fruit of his labor lives on in his buildings, his gifts and more precious to him, his family. A job well done, a life well lived---Cecil joins Gin again, by her side for eternity in heaven. Go rest high on that mountain!
Flowers are appreciated; however, contributions may be made in loving memory of Cecil to Lee University, 1120 N. Ocoee Street, Cleveland, TN 37311.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
