Dr. Charles Joseph Rey, age 88, of Marietta passed away February 23, 2014. He was born in Atlanta, GA on October 20, 1925, son of Charles Joseph Rey, Sr. and Sarah Forrest Rey. He moved to Decatur, GA at an early age and attended Decatur Schools. He graduated from Decatur Boys High School in 1943, where he was active in football, basketball, and baseball. He was elected treasurer of his graduating class and was honored as most efficient cadet officer in his R.O.T.C unit. After graduation from high school, Dr. Rey attended Emory University where he graduated in 1945 and attended the University of Georgia School of Medicine where he graduated in 1949. He interned at Macon Hospital in Macon, GA before entering the U.S. Navy where he served as a medical officer with Destroyer Division 162 during the Korean War. After discharge, he served four years of residency in General Surgery at Grady Memorial Hospital where he was chief resident of surgery in 1956. Dr. Rey practiced surgery in Cobb County for 35 years. He was chief of surgery and president of the medical staff of Cobb General Hospital. He was a member of the Cobb County Medical Society of which he was elected president in 1980. Dr. Rey was a Charter Board Member of Wellstar Health System. He is survived by his wife, Margaret Brock Rey; two sons and daughter-in-law, Chuck Rey, Steven and Debbie Rey; daughter and son-in-law, Suzanne and Fred Wright; granddaughters, Lauren Wright Holcomb, Emily Wright, and Summer Rey all of Cobb County; sisters, Frances Forrester and Martha Christopher. He was preceded in death by brothers, John and Robert Rey. Funeral Services will be held Thursday, 2:00 PM at Davis- Struempf Chapel in Austell with Dr, Sam Matthews officiating. Interment will follow at Kennesaw Memorial Park Cemetery
