It is hard to put into words the positive influence this man had on the lives of all who knew him. No one could resist a smile when Corey was around – he exuded genuine warmth that touched so many and made them feel like friends. Although never seeking attention, Corey’s smile and sense of humor made everyone want to be around him.
Corey had no greater pleasure than watching and coaching his children, Anna (8) and Andrew (13), in their sports. Corey was a constant presence on the sidelines and never missed a game or practice for his children. It was perhaps the best example of his charitable spirit that he took the time to coach children in lacrosse, soccer, and basketball. He always went out of his way to help and teach them about the sport and what it meant to be part of a team. Coach Corey was an inspiration and a role model for a huge group of children who will always remember him. Patient and slow to frustration, Corey was at his best while interacting with children.
Corey’s love for his children was rivaled only by his love for Emily, his wife of 17 years. Corey was a devoted and loving husband, who had a way of always making Emily laugh and see the lighter side of life. Their love started in high school and grew stronger every year. Above all, they were a team that worked together to raise two wonderful children and tackle the challenges of life with love, compassion and an always-present sense of humor.
Corey was an avid golfer, and spent his last day golfing with his father and brother-in-law. Corey will be sorely missed by all who knew him, as his gift of laughter and generous personality garnered him a large and loyal group of close friends.
In addition to Emily, Andrew and Anna, Corey leaves behind his parents, Don and Anita McLaughlin of Port St. Lucie, Florida and his sister and brother-in-law, Amy and Mike Porter, also of Port St. Lucie, Florida. Corey is also survived by his grandfather, George Danscak, his aunt and uncle, Donna and Gary Kuhl, from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and two nieces and four nephews.
The funeral mass for Corey will be held on Saturday, December 10th at 10am at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Marietta, Georgia.
Visitation will be held in the vestibule of the church one hour prior to the mass.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to a special account in the name of Andrew and Anna McLaughlin to support their future education, as Corey always made their future his priority.
Burial arrangements under the direction of Kennesaw Memorial Park.
