Born on February 8, 1942, in Fulton County, Georgia, Curtis was the beloved son of Helen Elizabeth Brannon Sappenfield and Colon C. Sappenfield. Known to many as “Ron,” he was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather whose strength, loyalty, and steadfast faith in Jesus Christ shaped the lives of all who knew him.
Curtis graduated from Southern Technical Institute (now Kennesaw State University) and built a long and respected career as a civil engineer, retiring from the Georgia Department of Transportation. His commitment to service extended beyond his profession—he also served his state and country honorably for six years in the Georgia National Guard.
Above all else, Curtis cherished his family. A loving and faithful husband to his late wife, Billie Jo, Ron lived every day as a provider, protector, and partner. Their bond was deep, and not a day passed without him missing her.
As a father, he was unmatched in his dedication and presence. He gave generously of his time and energy—especially during cherished family beach and camping trips—creating memories that will live on for generations. His guidance, humor, and love left an indelible mark on his children’s lives.
Curtis is survived by his children: Brad Sappenfield of Memphis, TN; Ronda Bowers of Woodstock, GA; and Stacy Sappenfield of Salt Lake City, UT. He was a proud grandfather to Obie and Lawton Bowers, and a great-grandfather to Harleigh Bowers.
Curtis Ronald Sappenfield will be remembered as the best husband and dad—a man deeply loved, greatly respected, and forever remembered.
