Some may also know him by his nickname Bud. He began his life journey on January 23, 1921 in the small community of Westerville just outside of Columbus, Ohio. He was the middle sibling of two sisters raised by Lovella Bolkmor and John Milton Long. After graduation from high school, Bud worked for a short time before enlisting in the Army Air Corp. where he earned his pilot wings and a rank of Major. Stationed in Yuma Arizona where he flew B-17’s from New York back to Arizona. Yuma is where a love story comes to life, where he meets a young Army Corp., Nurse, Inez M. Scurry from McRae, Georgia. She becomes his wife of 72 years and the mother of two. He served in the Korean War flying C-47 from there a short stay in the Georgia Air National Guard. After military service, he worked at Delta Airlines, American Red Cross and Lockheed Martin until his retirement. Bud was a long-time member of Maple Avenue United Methodist Church; he was passionate about life and family, best remembered as loving husband, patient father and loving grandfather. He loved talking to people in general, helping others, loved Georgia and the weather so much he never wanted to go back to Columbus to live.
