

Born in Milford, MA, on July 28, 1934, Gerry was the beloved daughter of the late Nicholas and Clara (Tosches) DiVittorio. She graduated from Milford High School in 1951, attended Pierce Secretarial School in Boston, MA and embarked on a career as a legal secretary in Boston. After meeting and marrying her husband, life took the pair to Japan and back to Milford, and ultimately to Georgia where they raised their four daughters. After moving to Georgia in 1973, Gerry worked for the U.S. government as a contract specialist at Lockheed Martin Marietta. A lifelong learner, Gerry continued her education journey and fulfilled her dream of earning her college degree at Kennesaw State College in 1995.
She was predeceased by her husband Ernest “Buzz” Sawyer, her brother Rudolph “Rudy” DiVittorio and her granddaughter Kristen Paige Spurlock.
Gerry leaves behind her brother Nicholas P. DiVittorio , and his wife, Linda of Harwich, MA; her daughter, Lynne (Tom) Spurlock of Acworth, GA; her daughter Janice (Elbert) Tucker of Mt. Juliet, TN; her daughter, Elaine (Todd) Tarpley of Acworth, GA; and her daughter, Karen Sawyer of Acworth, GA. She is also survived by her loving grandchildren, Austin (Taylor) Spurlock; Faith Tucker and Reed Tucker; Dallas Eberle and Lane Eberle; Sawyer Tarpley and Michaela Tarpley. “Meemers” will be deeply missed and will always be remembered for her loving heart, generous spirit and beautiful smile.
Family and friends will honor and remember Gerry’s life by gathering for visitation at Winkenhofer Pine Ridge Funeral Home in Kennesaw, GA on July 30, 2023 from 4:00-6:00 pm. A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Monday, July 31, 2023 at 11:00 am at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church in Kennesaw, GA. Interment will follow at Kennesaw Memorial Park Cemetery in Marietta, GA.
