A Funeral Service will be held 5:00 p.m. Thursday, August 11th at Mayes Ward-Dobbins Funeral Home Historic Chapel in Marietta with Rev. Charles Sineath officiating. Interment will be private.
Best known for her loving spirit and servant heart, Hilda raised four children alone after her husband died in a Navy plane crash in 1959. She returned from Norfolk, VA to settle in Marietta where her young children could be surrounded by her Colquitt family and his Cagle family. She had graduated from Marietta High School and The University of Georgia so Marietta held long-time friends for the young mother.
Most of her life, she attended First United Methodist Church of Marietta where a women's circle was named after her. That group dedicated a mother's nursing room to her and began a large consignment sale that continues today.
As the senior member of the new Wesleyan Fellowship, now called Riverstone Church, she was asked to turn the first shovel of dirt at the groundbreaking on the corner of Barrett Parkway and Stilesboro Road. She later transferred to a sister church, StoneBridge Church where most of her family attends.
She worked in various administrative positions, but her most important work was helping to raise her grandchildren. She provided childcare and spent countless hours with her ten grandchildren, enjoying their company as they enjoyed her. She was beloved by them all and later by their children. She was always eager to spend time with those she loved and for years hosted large family gatherings.
Throughout her life, she was active in prayer groups, Bible Studies, youth camps, Sunday School and other Christian activities. She led by example. If she expected her children to participate in an activity, she would always be involved as well. She was the first "choir mother" at First United Methodist Church, a youth camp counselor, an MHS booster and perpetually present and involved wherever her children were active. Her children followed that pattern with their families. Hilda's Christian belief and prayer life were always an example to others as she exemplified a woman of faith.
Mrs. Cagle is survived by her two sons and their wives, Bob Cagle and Kaye, Jim Cagle and Cheryl; two daughters and their husbands, Patty Eble and BJ, MaryElizabeth Carlisle and Logan; ten grandchildren, Ann C. Purcell (Brent), Ellen C. Bush (Will), Haley C. Watkins (Jeff), Christian Cagle, Kristen E. Rokovunisei (Junior), Tricia E. Agee (Sam), Rebekah E.
