IIris Dobson Rhodes, 88, of Marietta, Georgia went to be with the Lord on January 26th, 2026. She was born in Canton, Georgia to Mr. William Bethel Dobson, Jr. and Johnnie Marie Dunn on July 4th, 1937. She was first saved in Naples, Florida in 1978 and was a member of Mount Paran and Mount Paran North from 1978 to her passing.
Iris was a stay-at-home mother for all her children’s early years. She taught them how to sew, how to cook, and quilt-making. To make ends meet she occasionally sold Sarah Coventry and Avon but she trusted Lord Jesus for everything else. She sacrificed so much to be there for her family anytime she could. We can never repay her for all she did. After her children were grown and out of the house she worked for Superior-Essex for 19 years full and part-time. She also had a wallpaper business that was called “That Extra Touch” after the children got a little older. She even wallpapered her children’s houses several times! Her unselfish devotion to others in need made her a very good friend to many. If she had something you liked she would give it to you immediately even if she liked it too. Her generosity towards charities was unmatched. She was unwavering in her commitment to them, even when it was inconvenient. She always felt that God knew her heart and would honor those donations.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Johnnie Dobson; and her granddaughter Carmen Marks Ray. She is survived by children; Lauren Marks (Stan), Kim Rhodes Markham (Marvin), Douglas Rhodes Jr., Angie Hinton (Kenny), her sister, Karen Cox, her brother, Jon Dobson (Linda) and her grandchildren, Kierston Delk Rogers (Erik), Candice Markham Ray (Stephen), Logan Hinton (Haley) and her great-grandchildren, Rayleigh and Tatum Rogers, and Luke and Claire Hinton, as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Services will be held at Mayes Ward-Dobbins Funeral Home on Thursday, January 29th at 2PM. The family will receive guests at the funeral home from 12pm to 2pm. Internment will follow at Kennesaw Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please donate to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital in her memory.
