James William Pursell Jr.

Rehabilitation and Nursing Home on Sunday, October 8, 2023, after a long

illness with kidney disease.

Bill was born to James William Pursell, Sr and Annie Lucille Pursell on

June 4, 1940. Bill was born in Blackshear, GA but spent his youth in

Okeechobee Florida where he played basketball and football for

Okeechobee High School, fished, and learned to ski on the lake. After high

school, Bill joined the Air Force where he became a firefighter and spent

his time serving in Anchorage, Alaska. He returned to the state of Georgia

to live. He worked 34 years at Lockheed Martin as a firefighter before

retiring.

Dad was passionate about football. When Paul played football for the

Sprayberry Junior Jackets and later Sprayberry High School, he missed

maybe two football practices in 7 seasons. In his later years, he enjoyed

watching his grandsons play football at Hillgrove High School in Powder

Springs, GA. Dad rarely missed football practices and he traveled the state

following the Hillgrove Hawks. He loved to travel and spent time traveling

throughout the United States. He loved playing ALTA tennis, a good

country buffet, fishing on any lake or body of water. He enjoyed hanging

with his son Paul and daughter-in-law Carol to take in a Georgia Football

game.

Bill is preceded in death by his father, James William Pursell, Sr, his

mother, Annie Lucille Pursell and his daughter Pamela Pursell McClung.

He is survived by his son, Paul and Carol Pursell and his grandsons,

Hunter Pursell and Clint Chester.

He is also survived by his brother, Danny and Phyllis Pursell. Nephew,

Brian and Denise Pursell and niece Christie Pursell; as well as many

cousins, great nieces and great nephews.

A special thanks to the nurses and staff at Roselane Rehabilitation and

Nursing Facility in Marietta, Georgia for taking care of our dad over the last

year of his life. We are grateful to Gentiva Hospice Care staff for their

professionalism and extraordinary efforts to comfort us and dad in his final

days of life.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Roselane Nursing Facility or

Gentiva Hospice Care.

Mayes Ward Dobbins is overseeing Bill’s final cremation arrangements. He

will be interred at Kennesaw Memorial Park where a memorial service will

be held on Friday, November 3, 2023 at 1:00 pm.
