Judy Marie Seagraves left her earthly home for her eternal home on July 10, 2025. Judy was born in Hollywood, Florida, on January 30, 1967, to her birth mother, Joann Goodwin Ellis. Her young life changed at six months old when she received her new family, the Taylors, who raised Judy in Douglasville, Georgia.
Judy was a proud 1985 graduate of Lithia Springs High School. After graduation, she began a career with Shelby Chambers CPA firm in Marietta. After 14 years of service, she accepted a position with the Cobb County Board of Tax Assessors. During her time there, she received numerous merit awards for her dedicated work. Judy served in multiple roles throughout many departments during her time with the county, always willing to lend a helping hand to others. Judy retired from a 25-year career with the county on January 30, 2023. When recently asked if she missed working, Judy replied that it was the people she worked with whom she missed most.
Judy married Richard Seagraves on June 11, 1988. They shared 37 years of marriage. Judy and Richard are the proud parents of two sons, Kyle and Andrew, whom they raised in Powder Springs, Georgia. She loved her sons with all her heart. Judy enjoyed watching her sons play sports and march in the band, being with friends, or reading a good book. She also enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, Mary Kate and Thomas.
Judy was a faithful member at Powder Springs First Baptist Church for over 36 years. She loved Wednesday nights working in the children's ministry and Sunday mornings teaching children’s Bible school.
Judy is preceded in death by members of the Taylor family and her father-in-law, Richard Lewis Seagraves, Sr. To cherish her memory are her husband, Richard Lewis Seagraves, Jr., her children, Kyle (Lindsay) Seagraves, and Andrew Seagraves, her grandchildren, Mary Kate and Thomas Seagraves, her mother-in-law, Nancy Seagraves, sister-in-law, Kimberly Seagraves, and many close work friends and family.
The family will receive friends and loved ones for visitation from 11-1:30 p.m. and funeral service at 2 p.m. on Saturday, July 19, at Powder Springs First Baptist Church in the main worship center. Burial service will follow at Kennesaw Memorial Park in Marietta.
Flowers or donations to Powder Springs First Baptist Children’s Department are both welcome. The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to Mayes Ward Dobbins Funeral Home and Crematory for their compassionate care and professional services.
