Mrs. Reed was born in Huntsville, Texas and at eight years of age, the family relocated to Deer Park, Texas. She later attended and graduated from Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, Texas, eventually working as a teacher at an elementary school in Houston, Texas. She would meet the love of her life in college, eventually marrying Cecil Ray Reed, Jr. on January 23, 1969. The couple recently celebrated their fifty-fourth wedding anniversary. Mr. and Mrs. Reed enjoyed a wonderful and caring union and raised three children.
A dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and daughter, Mrs. Reed was also an exceptionally talented, warm, and giving “homemaker” in every sense of the word. Serving tirelessly as nurturing mother and caring wife, PTA or team mom, seamstress, baker, or animal caretaker, she relished the opportunity to lovingly welcome and embrace family, friends, and neighbors – whatever the occasion – in her home.
Mrs. Reed is survived by her loving husband, Cecil Ray Reed, Jr. of Marietta, Georgia; her eldest son, Chad Kenneth Reed, his wife, Alicia Patton Reed, of Marietta, Georgia, and their daughter, Shelby Elizabeth Reed, and son, Wyatt Patton Reed; her youngest son, Bart Weldon Reed, his wife, Caroline Panter Reed, and their son, Kethan Panter Reed, of Bainbridge Island, Washington; her daughter, Katherine (“Katy”) Susanna Reed Gardner, her husband, Michael Arthur Gardner, and their sons, William (“Will”) Reed Gardner and Henry (“Hank”) Michael Gardner, of Kennesaw, Georgia. Mrs. Reed is also survived by her four siblings, James Donald (“Jimbo”) Kethan of Woodville, Texas; Joseph (“Joe”) Weldon Kethan of San Antonio, Texas; Dena Kethan Oden of Magnolia, Texas; and Elizabeth Kethan Wright of Arlington, Texas.
