Loraine was born in Tuscaloosa County, Alabama, to Flora Jones and Thomas H. Higginbotham. A woman of great strength and compassion, she devoted much of her life to caring for her family and nurturing others with quiet determination.
She had a lifelong passion for gardening and caring for her home and family. As a mother of four, Loraine faced life's challenges with grace. Two of her daughters were born with disabilities, and she was a tireless and loving caregiver. Her youngest child, Sue Lee, was severely intellectually disabled. Loraine cared for Sue at home until the age of 16, when she was placed in the Atlanta Retardation Center to receive full-time care.
Afterward, Loraine stepped into the world of business alongside her husband, Calvin Lee, in the family’s fencing business. It was her first professional venture after many years of motherhood, and she truly succeeded, taking great pride in the work and partnership she and Calvin built together.
Her daughter Barbara Lee, who also required Loraine's care and support, remained close by. Loraine and Calvin purchased a townhouse for Barbara near their home so she could live independently while still being close to her family. Barbara came home for dinner every night, a tradition that continued until her passing on April 29, 2024.
Loraine is survived by her devoted children, Paul Ray Lee and Linda Carol Lee. She was preceded in death by her daughters Barbara Lee and Sue Lee, as well as her husband, Calvin Lee.
A graveside service will be held 1:30 pm Sunday, August 3, 2025 at the Kennesaw Memorial Park Cemetery. Carmichael Funeral Home in Smyrna is in charge of arrangements. www.carmichaelcares.com 770-435-4467
