NASON, Phillip Brown, affectionately known as Phil, of Brockton, formerly of Marietta, GA, passed away peacefully on October 16, 2023, in Brockton, MA. He was born on March 9, 1930, in Erie, PA, to the late Harold and Grace (Brown) Nason who nurtured his vibrant spirit and fostered his lifelong commitment to service.
Phil was the devoted husband of the late Betty (McConnell) Nason, and their love story was one for the ages. Betty raised six children:
Jim, Jeff, Tom, and Steve McConnell, also Janice Perry and Kathleen Morris, and through them and their spouses they had many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Phillip raised two children, Johanna Thompson, married to Joe of Abington, and Paul Nason of CO. Phil's love for his family was evident in his role as a father, but it was as a "Grand Dad" that he truly shone. His grandchildren, Sarah Killeffer and her husband David, Matthew Thompson and his wife Alexa, Megan Nason, Christina Nason, and Timmy Nason, held a special place in his heart as well as his grandchildren on the McConnell side of his family. Phil's joy only multiplied with the arrival of his great-grandchildren, Luke, Peter, Jonathan, Benjamin, Madison, Thomas, Alana, and Daniel. He was also a cherished brother to Martha Padgett of KY, and will be remembered fondly by her and his dear daughter-in-law, Linda Nason of CO. He also had two beloved sisters who passed away before him, Gladys Stanton and Linda Brown.
A proud high school graduate, Phil's work ethic and dedication led him to a rewarding career as a Tool Coordinator for the Lockheed Martin Corp. His commitment to his work was matched by his dedication to his country. Phil proudly served in the Army and the Navy during the Korean War, a testament to his courage and his deep sense of patriotism.
Phil's service extended beyond his professional and military life. He was an active member of the 1st United Methodist Church in Marietta, GA, where his faith and fellowship were integral parts of his life. Phil also dedicated his time and energy to the Lions Club, contributing to his community and exemplifying the spirit of service that defined his life.
Outside of his work and service, Phil had a zest for life that was infectious. He was an avid golfer, a hobby that brought him great joy and offered a wonderful way to connect with friends and family. He also enjoyed playing cards, a pastime that was as much about the camaraderie as it was about the game itself.
Phil's life was a testament to the power of love, service, and dedication. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. His legacy will live on in the lives of those he touched, and his memory will be cherished by all who knew him.
Phillip Brown Nason, a man of integrity and kindness, will be deeply missed, but his spirit will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing him. His life was a journey of love and service, a journey that left the world a better place.
