Robert Louis Seckler

January 14, 1945 – September 11, 2026

Robert Louis Seckler, affectionately known as Bob, passed away peacefully at his home on September 11, 2026, after a brief battle with cancer. He lived a full and joyful life surrounded by family, friends, music, and the many people whose lives he touched along the way.

Bob was born in Brooklyn, New York, on January 14, 1945, and grew up in Silver Spring, Maryland, where he met the love of his life, Margaret “Peggy” Seckler. Bob and Peggy shared 58 wonderful years of marriage, building a life together filled with family, laughter, adventure, and love.

At the age of 25, Bob started his own dental laboratory and devoted his career to building a successful business. In 1976, Bob and Peggy moved their family to Marietta, Georgia, where they made their home and have remained in the area since that time. After retiring from the dental laboratory business at age 60, Bob embarked on a new career in real estate. He became a landlord to many happy tenants, several of whom have remained with him for many years.

Bob had a remarkable ability to make friends wherever he went. His friendships crossed all walks of life, and he was always on the lookout for someone who needed a helping hand—whether a lifelong friend or a complete stranger. He gave generously of his time and resources and never seemed to think twice about helping someone in need.

Bob loved music, particularly the music of the 1950s. He delighted in entertaining family and friends with his jukebox and extensive record collection. His love of music extended to collecting music boxes, including beautiful pieces dating back to the 1800s. He was also an avid collector of antiques and found great joy in surrounding himself with things that had history and character.

Another of Bob’s great passions was gardening. He loved growing flowers and plants, and his yard became a true showpiece—a reflection of his creativity, patience, and love of beauty.

But above all else, Bob loved his family. His favorite saying was that the goal in life was to get an “A” in family life, and he certainly made that goal his priority. His family was his greatest source of pride and joy, and the love he gave them will continue through the generations.

Bob is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years, Margaret “Peggy” Seckler; his daughters, Holli Roseanne Zhun and her husband, Matt, and Georgina Lynn Smith and her husband, Dominic; his grandchildren, Ansley Nicole Edie, Sean Michael Edie, Jack Robert Smith, and Disney Belle Smith; and his great- granddaughter, Ingrid Evelyn White.

He is also survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Paul and June Seckler; his nephew and his wife, Michael and Nicolette Seckler, and their sons, Benjamin and Henry; and his niece and her husband, Erica and Lyle Henze, and their daughters, Scarlett and Evelyn.

Bob leaves behind not only a loving family, but also countless friends, former tenants, neighbors, and acquaintances who were fortunate enough to know him. His kindness, generosity, humor, love of music, and devotion to family will be deeply missed.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, September 19, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at Marietta Seventh-day Adventist Church, 1330 Cobb Parkway North, Marietta, GA 30062. Flowers are welcome. Mayes Ward-Dobbins Funeral Historic Home at 180 Church Street
