

Virgil Joseph Bailey of Marietta, Georgia died peacefully on Wednesday, January 17, 2024 at the age of 93. Virgil is survived by his children, Randy Bailey (Janet) of Marietta, Alison Douglas (Sandy) of Ball Ground, Amy Bridges (Jon) of Atlanta, brother, Charles Norman Bailey of Rome, 7 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Wylene Houze Bailey of Marietta, parents, Joe and Bonnie Bailey of Adairsville, sisters, Hazel Pollard and Rachel McCampbell of Marietta, sister, Alice Faye Bailey of Adairsville, and brother, Harvey Bailey of Adairsville. Virgil was born in Adairsville on April 22, 1930. He attended Adairsville High School and soon after graduation he joined the Army. He served as a Corporal during the Korean War and was stationed in Germany. He served as a deacon at Olive Springs Baptist Church and taught Sunday School to 5th grade boys. As a floor covering business owner and salesman, he enjoyed providing good customer service to his clients. He and Wylene were married for almost 70 years, and they enjoyed traveling and home improvement projects. For the last 34 years, Virgil was a faithful member of First Baptist Church Marietta and the Men’s Sunday School Class. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who was kind and full of gratitude. Contributions can be made in his memory to Calvary Children’s Home. His children would like to thank Jamonda, Jane, Andrea, Shelly, and the many other caregivers who provided support and care for the past three years.
