at the age of 59 after declining health over the past few years. He was born on May 26, 1965 in Atlanta, GA to Sidney Eugene “Gene” and Johnnie Daniell. He was raised in Marietta, GA and graduated from Osborne High School. He is survived by his wife of 23 years, Cindy Daniell; his son, Nicholas Daniell; mother Johnnie Daniell; sister Sharon Cortez (Kip); aunts Pat Gulley and Mary Jane Hughes; uncle Jack Daniell; nephew Austin Cortez, as well as many extended family members. He was preceded in death by his father Sidney Eugene “Gene” Daniell.
Todd had a long career in Software Development/Engineering. He was the guy who figured out development solutions in many of his positions. In recent years, his work often involved mobile development, and he enthusiastically embraced the challenges that came with new work positions. He didn’t really have retirement on his mind as he enjoyed his career. Sadly, he had to stop working in September 2023 due to his declining health.
Todd had many hobbies over his lifetime and immersed himself in learning as much as he could about any of his new interests as they came along. Some past interests in his earlier adult years included coins, rocks, fencing, all things space and shuttles, taking flying lessons, car racing, becoming scuba certified, and astronomy. In more recent years, he enjoyed genealogy, video gaming, writing game apps, 3D printing, laser engraving and drones. He was an avid Formula One racing fan, and he also made a few trips over the years to attend the Indianapolis 500.
Todd was introduced to travel with his family as a child and shared many memorable vacations with his family growing up. He enjoyed reminiscing about those trips with his parents and sister many times over the years. He wanted to share his National Park experiences with Cindy and Nicholas, with Yellowstone being the one place he wanted to take Nicholas to most of all. They did take a family vacation in 2018 that included Mount Rushmore, Badlands, Grand Tetons, and most importantly, Yellowstone. They also enjoyed a family trip to Washington DC, and a few trips to Disney World before Todd’s health declined.
Todd enjoyed spending time with family, especially on holidays and at family reunions. There were many times that family gatherings with his immediate family or Cindy’s included some card or board games. He loved anything involving strategy and was very competitive, especially with his sister Sharon, who is equally competitive. He wasn’t comfortable in large group settings, but individually, or in a small group conversation, he could talk for hours. He loved to share his knowledge, and to learn from others. He frequently ended phone and in person conversations by saying “If there is anything I can do to help you, just give me a call”.
Cindy and Todd were married in 2001. After an early pregnancy loss, followed by several years of fertility treatment, Nicholas was welcomed into the family in 2007. That was one of the most joyful life events that Cindy and Todd shared in their marriage. When Todd became a father, he took every available opportunity to teach Nicholas things that he had learned from his own father, including how to build and fix things. He wanted to provide Nicholas with experiences that he wished he had been able to do as a child. To that end, he vowed, even while Cindy was still pregnant, to start Nicholas in go karting at age 3. Cindy was able to hold him off until Nicholas was 8. The family enjoyed a few years of go kart racing in Georgia, North Carolina, Florida and Indiana. Todd loved being able to share racing with his son, and the camaraderie of his racing family. As with all hobbies, Todd immersed himself in learning the science, mechanics and strategy of go kart racing. Most practices and race days could be found with him using his laptop to analyze Go Pro and other data to help Nicholas grow as a racer.
