Larry was a beloved Husband, Dad, and Paw to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren whose greatest joy was his family. A man of Christian faith, Larry never met a stranger and was always willing to lend a helping hand. He was known for his generous heart, his love of conversation, and his willingness to share his knowledge and skills with anyone who wanted to learn.
He spent his career in the construction industry. After working alongside his father doing framing and trim work, he went on to establish Larry Palmer Enterprises, becoming a skilled custom home builder. He took immense pride in the homes he built and in learning every trade involved in the process. He was especially proud of the home he and Shirley shared, having her help him draw the plans for their previous home on Hopkins Road.
Outside of work, Larry enjoyed jeep racing, NASCAR, antique cars, deep-sea fishing, traveling with his in-laws, family poker nights, baseball, and watching Gunsmoke. He also enjoyed collecting antique cars and Budweiser mugs. He loved charity car shows and was a long time supporter of local sports teams involving his nephews, grandson, and great-grandson. He also sponsored his grandson’s race car.
Larry & Shirley’s home was often the gathering place for parties and shenanigan’s. When his children were small, his backyard often served as the neighborhood playground. When he built Hopkins, they hosted family holidays, birthday parties, weddings, Halloween scavenger hunts and milestone anniversary celebrations.
Above all, Larry cherished his family and the life they shared together. He is survived by his loving wife, Shirley Palmer; his children, Tabitha Poole (Billy), Tonya Farist (Danny), and Lance Palmer (Shelly); his grandchildren, Jessica Wise (Teddy), Kaylie Arnsdorff (Alec), Ashley Zachmeyer (Jeffrey), Kimberly Farist (Ben Lash), and Logan Palmer (Amy); and his great-grandchildren, Adalee Zachmeyer, Jayden Wise, Carter Arnsdorff, Chandler Arnsdorff, Lawson Palmer, Landon Wise, and Lainey Palmer. He is also survived by his brother Dennis Palmer (Pam) and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.Larry is preceded in death by his father, William Howard Palmer; his mother, Ellen Nora Palmer; and his sister and brother in law, Linda Norton (Doug).
Larry will be remembered for his generosity, his craftsmanship, his sense of humor, and most of all, the love he had for his family. He leaves behind a lifetime of memories and a legacy that will continue through the generations he loved so dearly. Those who knew him will likely remember his favorite saying on the jobsite “you stack wood and pile shit”, a phrase that perfectly captured his straightforward, no-nonsense personality.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, September 30, 2026 at 1:00pm from the chapel of Bellamy Funeral Home in Hiram, Georgia. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 11:00am until the service time.
