OBITUARY
Alice Spencer Shorter
March 17, 1933 – January 7, 2018
Alice Spencer Shorter, 84, of Snow Creek Road, Martinsville, passed away Sunday, January 7, 2018 at her residence. She was born in Franklin County, March 17, 1933 to Thomas Albert Spencer and Betty Era Turner Spencer. She retired from DuPont after 17 years of service. She was a very active member of Trinity Baptist Church where she was Sunday school director and teacher, and member of the WMU. She served as moderator for the Martinsville-Henry County Baptist Association where she was also involved with WMU. Alice was a proud member of the Patrick Henry Chapter of the DAR. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Billy Lenwood Shorter. She is survived by her daughter, Patricia Ann Oakes (Timothy) of Penhook; two sons, Lyndon Keith Shorter (Susan) and Alan Thomas Shorter, both of Martinsville; one sister, Mildred Spencer Gusler of Collinsville; three grandchildren, Adam Lance Shorter, Amber Kristin Craig, Sarah Ann Oakes and six great-grandchildren. The funeral service will be held Thursday, Jan. 11th at 2 P.M. at McKee-Stone Funeral home in Martinsville where the family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at Roselawn Burial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice, 730 East Church St., Martinsville, VA 24112 or Trinity Baptist Church, 2370 Snow Creek Rd, Martinsville, VA 24112. I am so sorry about Mrs. Shorter's passing. I will miss her terribly. While looking at each of the photographs in the gallery, all I could think was what a legacy that she and Mr. Shorter have left! Praying for the entire family for the coming days ahead.
