Billy Lenwood ShorterBilly Lenwood Shorter, 80, of 1306 Snow Creek Road in Martinsville, died Monday, December 28, 2009 at his residence. He was born in Henry County on January 2, 1929 to Roy Cabell Shorter and Mary Frances Carter Shorter.He served in the Navy where he was Seaman Second Class aboard the U.S.S. Kishwaukee.Billy retired from DuPont and was a member of Trinity Baptist Church. He was an avid NASCAR fan and loved to see the Fords win. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by six brothers and four sisters.He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Alice Spencer Shorter of the residence; one daughter, Patricia Ann Oakes and husband Timothy of Penhook; two sons, Lyndon Keith Shorter and wife Susan and Alan Thomas Shorter, all of Martinsville; one grandson, Adam Lance Shorter; two granddaughters, Amber Kristin Shorter and Sarah Ann Oakes; one great-granddaughter, Ashlynn Taylor Amos; two sisters, Dorothy Matherly of Hampstead, NC, Jane White and husband Scott of Collinsville and many nieces and nephews.Memorials may be made to the Hospice Fund, C/O Martinsville Area Community Foundation, P. O. Box 1124, Martinsville, VA 24114.Funeral services will be held Wednesday, December 30, 2009 at 3:00 P.M. at Collins-McKee-Stone Funeral Homes, Martinsville Chapel with the Rev. Jim Steele officiating.
