Carl Robert Brown
February 16, 1925 – November 9, 2014

Carl Robert Brown, 89, of 221 Stuart Ridge Road, Martinsville, VA, and most recently a King's Grant Lacy Healthcare Center resident, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, November 9. He was born in Lynchburg, VA on February 16, 1925 to Robert James Brown and Rosa Austin Brown.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 50 years, Gladys Blackwell Brown. He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Coretta Mills and Minnie Grogan and three brothers, Raymond, Paul, and James.
Carl proudly served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He retired from DuPont after 38 years of faithful service and also retired from Memorial Hospital of Martinsville and Henry County after serving 16 years as its Business Office Courier. Carl enjoyed playing golf and sharing a story or joke with everyone he met.He was a member of Rich Acres Christian Church. Over the years he participated in activities ranging from construction of classrooms, singing in the choir, and teaching Sunday School.
Survivors include his daughters, Vicki B. Grogan and her husband Duane of Ridgeway, Melanie B. Ingram and her husband Tommy of the Henry community in Franklin County; two granddaughters, Sarah G. Williams of Holiday, Florida and Katie I. Carter of Boones Mill, Virginia; and one great-granddaughter, Mackenzie Williams, of Holiday, Florida. He is also survived by special friend Gaynor Mason and her dog Lucky of Roanoke, VA.
The funeral will be held Wednesday, November 12, 2014 at 1:00 PM at McKee-Stone Funeral Home Martinsville Chapel with Pastor Tim Hunt officiating. The family will receive friends from 11:30 to 12:30 prior to the service. Burial will follow at Roselawn Burial Park with Military Honors.
