

Charles (Skeeter), son of the late Cephas Gillespie Shelburne and Emma Divers Shelburne, was born on December 8, 1918 in St. Louis, Missouri. At an early age the family relocated to Rocky Mount, VA, to reside on East Court Street.
After completing his education he served in the U.S. Navy aboard the U.S.S. Burke during WWII. He worked at the DuPont Plant in Martinsville for 40 years, retiring in December 1981.
He was a member of Calvary Christian Church serving on many committees and was a trustee until disabled.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Douglass Divers Shelburne; his sisters, Evelyn Byrd Shelburne and Helen Shelburne Perdue.
Survivors include his wife, Louise McGuire; his sister, Elizabeth Shelburne Beale of Rocky Mount, VA. He is also survived by his children; Charles Shelburne and wife Janet Newkirk of Massanutten, VA ; Susan Shelburne Simmons and husband Carroll Simmons. His grandchildren include Rita Simmons Scott and her husband Jon Scott, Elizabeth Shelburne Cessna and her husband Scott Cessna, Carrie Shelburne Thornton and her husband Chad Thornton and Jessica Shelburne. His great-grandchildren are Amber Scott and Meredith Thornton.
The Funeral will be conducted by Reverend Ben Barbour and Reverend Mike Carrow at Calvary Christian Church at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, March 24, 2010. Burial will be at Roselawn Cemetery.
Family will receive friends at Calvary Christian Church at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 24, 2010. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Memory of Charles to Calvary Christian Church, P.O. Box 3844, 515 Mulberry Road, Martinsville, VA 24112.
