He was born on December 13, 1951, in Martinsville, Virginia to James Clayton Stone, Sr. and Cevera Martin Stone. In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by his wife, Tamara “Tami” Carter Stone; brother, James C. Stone, Jr.; several nephews and in-laws, all of which he loved dearly and nineteen beloved dogs.
Scott is survived by his father, James “Jimmy” C. Stone, Sr. who turned 100 in January, his brother Chuck Stone of Cascade, Virginia, his sister Lesa Stone Vinson (Wally) of Greensboro, North Carolina, a niece Mary Katherine Stone of Reidsville, North Carolina, a nephew James Wade Adkins (Jen) of Atlanta Georgia, sisters-in-law, Sue Stone and Marcie Collins of Martinsville, Virginia, mother in law Gloria Keene (David), brothers-in-law Danny Motley and Tony Keene, and his beloved blue healer, Lucy of the home.
Scott was a lifelong resident of Martinsville and Henry County and worked many years at Virginia-Carolina Freight Lines, Inc. He was an avid hunter and golfer and a long-time member of Chatmoss Country Club. Beyond his passion for family and friends, Scott promoted the rights of our four-legged furry friends along with the love of his life, Tami, at the Martinsville and Henry County SPCA. He served two years as their President and for many years as a devoted volunteer. Scott was a life-long member of Chatham Heights Baptist Church, serving for many years on the property committee. In addition, Scott was a kind, loyal and generous soul, showing up when needed with a willingness to do whatever to help those in need. He will be missed terribly by family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Scott’s memory to Chatham Heights Baptist Church, 1235 Chatham Heights Road, Martinsville, VA 24112 or the Martinsville/Henry County SPCA, 132 Joseph Martin Hwy. Martinsville, VA 24112.
