Danny J. Atkins

Danny Jean Atkins, 62, of 194 Highland Ridge Drive, Martinsville, died Sunday, July 18, 2010 at his home. He was born in Leaksville, North Carolina, August 11, 1947 to Eldean Nickelston Atkins of Martinsville, and the late Warren J. Atkins. Mr. Atkins was the owner and operator of Dan-Ven Billiards and Piedmont Signs. He worked with Good News Jail Ministry for 25 years and was an assistant Chaplain at Memorial Hospital of Martinsville and Henry County. He was a member of The Church at Mercy Crossing where he served on the Church Council, was a Youth Leader, and held various other positions. In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Gail Altizer Atkins of the home; one daughter and son-in-law, Venus Atkins Williams and husband, Chris, of Martinsville; one son and daughter-in-law, Danny J. (D. J.) Atkins, Jr. and wife, Tiffany, of Martinsville; one sister and brother-in-law, Judy Atkins Boyd and husband, Ronnie, of Martinsville; eight grandchildren, Josh and Hailey Williams, Blaine Atkins, Graydon Atkins, Alex Atkins, Kelcey McCambridge, Brooke Grindstaff, and Blake McCloy, and several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends Wednesday, July 21, 2010 from 5:00-7:30 P.M. at The Church at Mercy Crossing and other times at the residence. A Celebration of Life Service will follow at 7:30 P.M. with Pastor Jackie Poe officiating. Interment will follow Thursday at 11:00 A.M. at Roselawn Burial Park.
