Donna LaRee Hughes
May 8, 1941 – September 3, 2021
Donna LaRee (Wing) Hughes, age 80, passed away surrounded by her husband and children on September 3, 2021 at her home in Martinsville, Virginia. Donna was born May 8, 1941 in Tacoma, Washington to Paul A. Wing and Isabell Erickson who both preceded her in death. Also preceding her in death are her oldest daughter, Rhonda Jeannette Clark, her brother Michael, granddaughters Kayla, Madilyn, and Evelyn, and one Grandson, Anthony. She is survived by her husband, Gene Hughes, her daughters Kathleen Kinsler, Suzanne (David) Gearhart, Rebecca (Andrew) McVicker, one son, David (Jamie) Hughes, a brother, Larry (Anna) Wing of Georgia, a sister Michele (Mark) Turner of Colorado, Grandsons Korey (Heidi), Brock, Tyler, Mitchell, Jordan, and Granddaughters Katarina (Sam), Jeena (Henry), Alexys, and five Great-Grandchildren, Nevaeh, Lyric, Kyan, Pandora, and Jayson. Donna was a devoted member and missionary for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Her love and devotion for her Savior was evident until her last breath. She and her husband spent 18 months on a mission for the Church in Nauvoo, Illinois. Never before has a more powerful testimony been born than Donna's of that place, the people that inhabited it, and the restoration of the Gospel.
Her love for her family was unconditional, selfless, and endless. Her children know that they got "the bestest Mom ever!" She adored her husband eternally. They were married and sealed for time and all eternity on September 18, 1959 in the LDS Temple in Los Angeles, California. Over almost 62 years, their love expounded and was evident just being in their presence.
Donna loved her Church family. She had a very special place in her heart for the Paradise Ward in Paradise, California. The friendships she made there were sweet memories for her that she spoke of often. Her family home evening groups were some of her favorite. She had fond memories of the fun. Her piano lessons with a man who "had the patience of a saint to listen to an old woman fumble over the keys." Sunday's were her favorite days as she got to worship with so many special people. In lieu of a formal service, the family is asking that your memories of her be shared digitally for them to save and remember. The lives that she touched are countless. Please share your memories!

Donna, I know you spent your life on earth working towards your eternal life. You are such a strong woman of faith and I know you fulfilled your quest. I will remember you always. After all, we did share a son together. I know you have been showered with blessings and I pray your family receive blessings of their own. I can not be sad when I know you are cradled in the arms of God.
