Obituary of Dorothy Hooker Robertson
Dorothy Hooker (Dotty) Robertson, 73, of Martinsville, Va. Passed away May 8th, 2019 at her home on Patrick Henry Farm, where she had lived her entire life. Dotty was born on August 10, 1945 at Baptist Hospital in Winston Salem N.C. to Ralph Agee Hooker and Dorothy Lester Hooker. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her grandparents, Samuel Hairston Hooker and Nancy Agee Hooker, Thomas Oscar Lester and Maggie Craig Lester and, her brother H. Thomas Keller of Highpoint NC. Dotty is survived by her husband of 52 years L. Randolph (Randy) Robertson of the home, brother George R. (Buddy) Hooker (Jan) of Collinsville and sister-in-law, Rosemary Keller, of High Point, NC, two nieces Clarissa K. Gillespie, Jett M. Hooker and one nephew, Dakota Hooker.Her best friends and travel companions, Jenny and Harry Hensley and Ron and Pat Austin. Her trusted long-time family friend Beulah Brim and last but not least her fur-baby Hanna. Dotty attended Martinsville area schools and Graduated from Fairfax Hall of Waynesboro, VA and Smithdeal Massey Business College in Richmond. Dotty was office manager and nurse for Dr. Harry C. Foster for over 20 years, until his retirement. She then remained with Dr. William Lewis until his retirement. Dotty loved to travel the world with her husband Randy in tow and visiting all 50 US States and over 60 foreign countries. She loved shopping, mission trips, and time at their beach house at Ocean Lakes, SC with her Ocean Lakes friends and neighbors. Dotty was a member of Axton Baptist Church since her youth, but had been active in Starling Avenue Baptist Church for over 20 years. She was an active member of Beta Sigma Phi for over 50 years. She was a volunteer with Grace Network and Habitat for Humanity for years. A special thank you to the doctors and nurses at Ravenel Oncology for their care and support during her long battle with cancer. And to Dr. William Zimmer for his care and friendship over the years. And Amedisys Hospice for their care during her final days. In lieu of flowers and food memorial gifts in Dotty’s memory can be made to Starling Avenue Baptist Church, 932 Starling Ave., Martinsville, VA 2411, SPCA, 132 Joseph Martin Hwy, Martinsville, VA 24112, or the charity of the donor’s choice. Pall bearers are Jeff Stegall, Dwayne Lewis, Dakota Hooker, Jay Austin, Bobby Hankins and Wink Montrief. Honorary Pall bearers are members of Dotty’s Sunday School Class. Visitation will be held at McKee-Stone Funeral Home from 6-8 PM Thursday May 9th , and at other times at the home, 464 Hooker Farm Road. The funeral will be held Friday, May 10th at 2:00 p.m. at Starling Avenue Baptist Church, with the Revs. Brian and Ashley Harrington officiating. Entombment will be in Roselawn Abby following the funeral service A luncheon will be held in the social hall of Starling Avenue Baptist Church beginning at 12 noon prior to the service.
