

Edward Moton Davis, Jr., 82, a lifelong resident of Martinsville, died Sunday, April 8, 2012. He was born in Martinsville, July 27, 1929 to Edward M. Davis, Sr. and Avis Stone Davis, both deceased. He was a 1948 graduate of Martinsville High School and also graduated from Bluefield Junior College. He served in the Air Force from 1950 - 1954 where he achieved the rank of Staff Sergeant. Edward was a long time local business owner of Davis Oil Company and served as a consultant in the gas and oil industry after his retirement in 1990. He was a member of Forest Hills Presbyterian Church where he served as an Elder and Clerk of Session. He was also a past president of the Martinsville Exchange Cub and a member of Forest Park Country Club. He played baseball in the Air Force and in the minor leagues and was an avid golfer.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Josephine Palaia Davis.
Surviving are two daughters, Mary Davis Scales and husband Stuart of Lexington, KY; Eva Davis Mitchell and husband Dan of Raleigh, NC; one son, Edward M. Davis, III and wife Anna of Alexandria, VA; three grandchildren, Eric Davis, Alison Davis and Ginny Scales; two sisters, Betsy Davis Edwards and Sue Davis Kalbaugh, both of Richmond.
The funeral service will be held Friday, April 13, 2012 at 11:00 am at McKee-Stone Funeral Home in Martinsville with the Rev. Dr. David Adkins officiating. Interment will follow in Oakwood Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Thursday, April 12, 2012 from 6:30 to 7:30 pm at McKee-Stone Funeral Home.
